I was talking to this amatuer the other day and he said he never plays ace ten suited. I thought this was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Anyone agree or disagree? This amatuer was playing 3-6 online and mucked Ace Ten suited in late position with no raises. I personally will call. How about you guys?

Depends... in that situation it is a definite raise. Late position and nobody has raised you have to assume you have the best hand. You could just call but don't fold.

Definately have to agree, I always (in most cases) play A 10 suited Pre-Flop!

Apod, i think it really depends on the game. In low limits that is definetly true, but if you are at a table of decent players, you should be tightening up considerably. Ideally you want all the players to limp when you hold A10, giving you good odds for your flush to hit... You should only feel secure with the hand if you hold the nut straight or flush. More often than not your single pair of aces will not hold up or be outkicked.

This is a limited number of hands, but out of 4500 hands of 2-4 - 5-10 on PP and PS I have gotten A10s 16 times with a win rate of 33%. Only 1 time out of the 16 did I win in a showdown with a pair of Aces. 1 time have hit my flush. It has been a losing proposition so far. (A10o is even worse, an 18% winner from 36 hands...)

Its not fun, because you're not playing as much, but I have tightened up a considerable amount after watching some of my hands play out and the results have been great.

why call when you can raise?

That should call for a call...but to get a flush you are looking for a Royal ( odds are against you ) and if another player has even a small pair they are still ahead of you. Call to see the flop and go from there...

Or you could make a medium raise ( 1/2 of pot ) and see if you thin out the crowd...but be ready to muck if you flop nothing helpful

maybe i am a fish but i love playing Ax suited especially with a 10 or better.....i hit alot of nut flushes with that and a few straights....to me raising with it it like a semi bluff and if i hit it makes for a big payday at the river especially if you make the nuts on the flop or turn and have the discipline to check and raise when you know someone has a piece or are chasing a draw

if you play ace ten suited looking and hoping for a royal flush, you could be one of the biggest morons in the world. you can flop 2,6,j of your suit and have the nuts... if the limit of the game depends on how many hands you play, then you shouldn't be playing poker seriously. this could be the most absolutely ridiculous comment i have seen on this board yet.

Apod, if you play the same in 3-6 as you do in 15-30 or no-limit or in tourneys you are not adjusting your play to the situation and it is ridiculous to suggest such a homogenous style of play.

you said that you should play more hands in 3-6 because it is cheaper. this is absolutely terrible advice; youre wasting bets, and there is nothing more to it.
